Distribution International supplies polyisocyanurate insulation, also known as PIR, polyiso, or ISO, for use in commercial and industrial thermal protection systems. This rigid, closed-cell foam delivers high thermal efficiency and moisture resistance in a lightweight, cost-effective format.

Overall Performance

The closed-cell structure of polyisocyanurate provides excellent thermal insulation, high compressive strength, and natural resistance to water intrusion. While polyiso is durable, it must be protected from UV exposure and mechanical damage—typically with jacketing or facing to extend service life and maintain vapor control.

Physical Characteristics

Polyisocyanurate is a lightweight, rigid foam plastic insulation with consistent dimensional stability and moisture resistance. It is combustible and may experience reduced insulating performance at extremely low temperatures, which should be considered when selecting for cryogenic service.

Temperature Range

Polyiso performs in a wide range of applications, with a service temperature range from -290°F (-143°C) up to 350°F (177°C). It is suitable for both cold service and moderate heat environments.

Environmental Impact

Modern polyiso insulation is formulated to reduce environmental impact, and while historically manufactured with CFC-11, many contemporary formulations use zero-ozone-depleting blowing agents and meet today’s environmental regulations.

Fabricated Products

DI fabricates polyisocyanurate insulation into pipe covers, fittings, curved segments, wall boards, and tank heads. Using advanced CNC machines and multi-axis milling technology, DI ensures high-precision cuts and consistent product quality for an exact fit in the field.

Reduced Labor Cost

Pre-fabricated polyiso products reduce the need for on-site cutting and shaping, helping crews install insulation faster and more efficiently while reducing material waste.

Applications

Polyisocyanurate insulation is ideal for:

  • Pipe and fitting insulation
  • Tank heads and curved segments
  • Wall board and roofing systems
  • Commercial and residential building insulation
  • Cold service and moderate heat applications
